Tamedia Publishing House, Zurich

Exceptional projects require tailor-made solutions. These developments are usually achieved through close cooperation with clients and architects. In this case, the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban had a remarkable idea for a glass facade. The Tamedia publishing house in Zurich is built entirely of wood and glass. Metal was completely omitted, and the dimensional accuracy of the supporting wooden elements and their connection to the glass elements is impressive. The implementation and realization of the project required an exceptionally highly qualified team with technical know-how and a high willingness to take risks. LOSCH, in close cooperation with Zurich-based Aepli Metallbau AG, realized a glass facade with a total of 11 mobile elements that can be opened vertically and measure a total area of approximately 150 square meters.

Enclosed spaces are being transformed into open lounges with views of the Sihl River. This project, where sustainability and energy efficiency were paramount, established new technical developments and application areas for LOSCHWAND®. The facade is waterproof and achieves a driving rain resistance of class 7A according to EN 12208. It is suitable for high wind loads according to EN 12210 and achieves class B2, the air permeability according to EN 12207 is class 4.
